Behavioral Health Partnership

northeast nebraska behavioral health network

Network History

The Northeast Nebraska Behavioral Health Network (NeNEBHN) grew out of the Northeast Nebraska Behavioral Health Coalition, which has been in existence since early 2013 and consists of thirty members that represent various entities and behavioral health stakeholders. As a result of funding from the Rural Health Network Development and Planning Program, NeNEBHN was incorporated as a non-profit entity under the laws of the State of Nebraska in 2015, has a pending request for 501(c) (3) status with the Internal Revenue Service, and created strategic, marketing, business, and sustainability plans. The NeNEBHN Board of Directors was originally composed of the head executives of Elkhorn Logan Health Department (ELVPHD), University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) College of Nursing-Northern Division, Midtown Health Center (the local Federally Qualified Health Clinic), Region 4 Behavioral Health System, and the Northern Nebraska Area Health Education Center (NNAHEC). In December 2016, the Chief Executive Officer of the Health Services Department of the Ponca Tribe of Nebraska was added to the NeNEBHN Board of Directors.

The NeNEBHN region and service area is comprised of 24 counties in northeast and north- central Nebraska. The region totals 22,152 square miles, a land area twice the size of Maryland or nearly the size of West Virginia. The closest major urban cities are Sioux City, Iowa, and Omaha, Grand Island, and Lincoln, Nebraska.  From the furthest west points of the service area, it is approximately 172 miles to the nearest urban city.

Currently, the project is funded by Northern Nebraska Area Health Education Center, Inc. with funds from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Rural Health Network Development Program.
