Diabetes Prevention

Diabetes was the ranked as one of the highest rated health concerns among adults in our service area according to our 2019 community health assessment survey. In addition, 81.7% of survey participants indicated that they felt they needed to lose weight. Because weight loss, nutrition and physical activity levels play an important role in preventing diabetes and many other chronic conditions, ELVPHD is committed to provide weight management and diabetes prevention services throughout our communities.

Pre-Diabetes Community Classes:

ELVPHD is a Recognized Provider of the National Diabetes Prevention Program (NDPP) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This program has helped MANY people lose weight and keep it off while making lifestyle change that help reduce risk for developing diabetes. In fact, our class particpants lose on average AT LEAST 5% of their total weight during the core 16 week classes!

What can I expect from this program?

  • Weight loss and a healthier lifestyle.
  • Helps cut your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes in half.
  • Encourages you to lose 5-7% of your body weight (10-14 pounds for a 200-pound person).
  • 16 weekly core sessions and 6 post-core sessions (once a month)
  • Provides strategies to incorporate healthier eating habits and physical activity into a person's everyday life.

To be eligible for the classes, participants must:

  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) reading of 24 or greater.
  • Be ready to make healthy changes
